Laudable gesture by the President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is very quick to recognise, appreciate and reward a good thing when it emerges.

And so being the man he is, lost no time to give honour to whom honour is due, praise to whom praise is due, when he swiftly rose to the occasion to ensure that the hero of the Asia Cup, Ajantha Mendis, be promoted forthwith to the rank of second Lieutenant in the army.

It must surely have been a satisfying, as well as a rewarding experience, for this unassuming mild mannered youngster, who comes from a humble abode, in a lowly placed environment in Moratumulla.

The President’s laudable gesture, will no doubt serve to act as an incentive, to influence yet other youngsters to give of their best and do well, for the greater cause and common good.
