Junior Inventor of the Year applications up to June 30
The closing date for applications for the "Junior Inventor of the
Year" (JIY) competition organised by the Institution of Engineers, Sri
Lanka (IESL) has been extended up to June 30 due to requests received
from enthusiastic junior inventors and schools.
The IESL seeks to promote science, engineering, mathematics and
technology related creativity and ingenuity amongst school-going
children through this competition. Students who win at the competition
will be awarded with scholarships, medals, certificates, cash prizes and
internships at the University of Moratuwa.
The school of the title winner will also be awarded with the
Challenge cup offered by the Post Graduate Institute of Management of
the Sri Jayawardhanapura University in addition to a cash prize.
The latest addition to the rewards of the competition is the rare
opportunity to take part at the annual 'Intel' IESF (International
Science and Engineering Fair).
Three inventors who were selected from among the last year's winners
took part in the 'Intel IESF' which was held in Atlanta, Virginia and
selected Junior Inventors of the 2008 competition will have the good
fortune of taking part in the "Intel IESF' which is to be held in the
State of Nevada in the United States. The participation to the Intel
IESF is sponsored by Intel.
Preliminary competitions that are conducted at regional level will be
held in July and August.
The winners of the final competition which is scheduled for the first
week of September will be awarded at the Annual Sessions of the IESL to
be held in the same month.
