Bandara, Chandrawathie win marathons

XXXIV National Sports Festival:

Soldier C.P. Meemanage (Western Province) emerged the National Cycling Champion when he had a thrilling finish at the XXXIV National Sports Festival which was held at Anuradhapura on Sunday. He finished the 133km event in 3 hours 35 min. 23 secs. very closely followed by eight others.

Men's Marathon saw the participation of 108 athletes while 54 took part in the women's edition.

A.M. Ajith Bandara (NWP) won the men's event finishing in 2hrs 26min. 38secs. IA.M. Chandrawathie (NCP) won the Women's marathon finishing in 3hrs 04min. 02secs. The 20km race walking event was won by B.M.N. Nayanananda (WP) (1hr 47min. 49secs.) and G. Geetha Nandani (WP) (1hr 59min. 56secs.) in men's and women's events respectively.
