Promising eighteen year old Ishara Madurangi of Sri Devananda
College, Ambalangoda made a fine impact by winning four titles at the
Chrys Guneratne Memorial Open All Island Ranking Table Tennis Tournament
worked off over the week- end at S. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium,
Mount Lavinia.
The former national champion who is ranked number 1 fared extremely
well to bag four titles out of five events that she took part except
mixed doubles. She did well to retain two titles- open women's singles
and women's doubles and added two more titles to her credit this year by
clinching girls under 21 and 18 crowns.
Ishara played a smart game to outlast national champion and bottom
seed Deepika Rodrigo (Lake House) in a six setter final (11/05, 10/12,
13/11, 06/11, 11/03, 11/09) after going down by two sets.
It was smooth sailing for Ishara to beat Deepika Rodrigo (Lake
House)/ Srimali Wimalarathna (Holy Family BMV, Kurunegala) in straight
sets joining her teammate Chandi Hansa in the open women's doubles final
(11/03, 11/07, 11/07). |
