Ananda - Royal clash in Boys under 15 hockey final

Ananda College and Royal College will clash in the final of the Under
15 Colombo Schools Boys Hockey Tournament while Yasodhara Balika
Vidyalaya, Colombo will be up against Visakha Vidyalaya in the girls
championships final organised by the Colombo Schools Hockey Committee.
The final encounters were scheduled to be held on Sunday at Astro
Turf, Reid Avenue Colombo, but officials said the tournament had to be
postponed owing to bad weather.
Skipper Thanuka Tennakoon spearheaded Ananda College to oust their
traditional rivals Nalanda College 1-0 in the semi finals through a
golden goal during the extra time as both teams failed to score goals
until regular time.
Royal College chalked out a convincing three goals to nil victory
over Isipathana College after being ahead with one goal to nil at half
time to book their place in the final.
Yasodhara girls overwhelmed Musaeus College by 2 goals to nil in the
girls semi finals after grabbing a one goal to nil lead at the breather.
In the other semi final fixture Visakha Vidyalaya beat President
College, Rajagiriya 1-0.
The above two final teams in both boys and girls categories and all
other teams which took part in the semi finals will qualify to
participate in the All Island Under 15 Schools Boys and Girls Hockey
Tournament which will be worked off from June 5 to 7 at Astro Turf.
The other outstation schools from Matale, Kandy, Chilaw, Gampaha,
Galle, Matara, Badulla and Kalutara districts will be vying for honours
in this event conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association. |
