TMVP PS member shot dead

BATTICALOA: Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) Eruvurpattu Pradeshiya Sabha Deputy Chairman and his bodyguard were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Eruvur, Kalawanchikudi yesterday afternoon, Military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said.

Eruvurpattu PS Deputy Chairman Ayathurai Pushpanathan alias Kattalan and his bodyguard Arasakoon Pullai Muhandas who were travelling in a trishaw have been followed by two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle, who opened fire and fled from the area.

“The incident had taken place in Eruvur school junction at around 1.30 p.m,” Brigadier Nanayakkara said.

He said Eruvur PS Deputy Chairman Kattalan and his bodyguard were killed on the spot. The bodies are at the Kalawanchikudi hospital.
