Look out for new moon

A Conference will be held under the auspices of the Colombo Grand Mosque at the Madrasathul Hameediah Hall on June 5, after the Salath Ul Magrib, to decided on the beginning of the Islamic month of Jumaihal Akhirah Hijri 1429 on the evidence of sighting the new moon.

The Colombo Grand Mosque appeals to Muslims to look out for the new moon on June 5 immediately after 6.24 p.m if the new moon is sighted inform the Colombo Grand Mosque on 2432110, 2390783, 2434651 or 0777-366099.

New books

* "Guwan Sekilla", a translation of "Air France" authored by Sarath B Bulathsinhala will be launched at 9 a.m. at the National Library Board Auditorium Colombo 7 on June 5.

* Two poetry books authored by Prakash Jayatilake namely "Mehen Arvith Wadiwenna", and Eya Nikma Giyaya will be launched at 2.30 p.m. on June 5, at the Mahaweli Centre, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo.

Dr. Rohan a Laxman Piyadasa will deliver the key note address.

* Anupama Amarakoon's childrens book entitled "Sizzy Suzzy and the Strawberry" will be launched at Public Library Entrance Hall, Colombo 07, on June 4 at 10.30 a.m.

Hunt ends in tragedy

A hunter has been shot dead by another hunter during a weekend hunt on Sunday afternoon at a jungle in Kandeketiya area, Polonnaruwa.

According to police media spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara around 12 hunters had gone for a hunt into a jungle patch of Kandeketiya.

The incident has occurred around 1.00 p.m.

"Initial investigations disclosed that a heated argument had arisen between the victim and the perpetrator," he added.

A police team from Kandeketiya was deployed to conduct investigations.

Meanwhile, Police found two unidentified male bodies yesterday morning in Kala-Elamulla, Muthurajawela.
