Defence, a school subject soon

Moves are under way to introduce defence as a subject from Grade 09 in the school curriculum on President Mahinda Rajapaksa's directive, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

The Minister said this will help create a patriotic and loyal society in the country.

The Education Ministry jointly with the Defence Ministry will introduce this subject to the students between 14 and 20 age groups in the Maha Vidyalayas and Central Colleges, he said.

This initiative will inculcate leadership qualities, self discipline, patriotism, team spirit and sound social behaviour in the students' minds.
