Farmer Awards August 22 to 24

The National Farmer Awards launched in 2006 by the National Agribusiness Council to encourage and educate farmers will be held for the third year from August 22 to 24 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre. This event is held annually concurrent to the AG-Biz Exhibition and Trade Fair.

Agricultural equipment such as two wheel tractors, threshers, sprayers, CDMA phones, trophies and certificates have been given to national and district winners.

Application forms are available at A. Baur & Co; Hayleys Agro, Mackwoods, Ceypetco agrochemical outlets; Jinasena & Co. branches, and Regional Farmer Council offices.

Applications are evaluated by a panel of agriculturalists from private and public sectors.

Based on the information provided by the applicant, farm visits are made to the potential winners' fields and on the spot evaluation is done by the panel members.

Evaluation considers the farmers' use of new technology; farm management and accounts; income generated and his knowledge of agri-business.
