‘UNP oil price formula would lead to higher prices’
Jayasiri MUNASINGHE
Though the Government provides a litre of petrel and diesel at a
Rs.157 and Rs.110 facing a huge fuel crisis in the world market,
consumers would have had to spend nearly Rs.190 and Rs.170 for both
petrol and diesel, if the prices have been evaluated under the price
formula drafted by the UNP Government, Finance and State Revenue
Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
Addressing a press briefing held yesterday in Colombo, the Minister
said if the prices of petrol and diesel were increased according to the
evaluation of the price formula of the UNP regime, a litre of kerosene
oil would now be Rs.147.
“But we provide a litre of kerosine oil at Rs.80 as a relief measure
for people,” The Minister added.
“We should follow a proper mechanism to minimise the fuel waste,” the
Minister said. All have to be united as one nation to reduce the
consumption of fuel for the benefit of each and every person,” He said.
It is useless going by bullock cart and pasting colourful posters on
walls without finding a common solution for this crisis, he said.
