Full-fledged hospital for Kathankudy
A full-fledged hospital will be constructed at Kathankudy in
Batticaloa District with Red Cross funding. The project was initiated by
the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society following the tsunami.
The building complex will comprise OPD, emergency treatment unit,
blood bank, mini operating theatre, wards and quarters for doctors and
nurses. The Norwegian Red Cross funded project will cost Rs. 670
million.
Inauguration of the construction of new hospital complex took place
in May. President of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Jagath Abeysinghe
and National Secretary S.H. Nimal Kumar participated at the
foundation-stone laying ceremony.
Chairman of the Baticaloa Branch T. Vasavtharajah, Provincial
Director of Health Services Dr. M. Devarajan were also present. Welcome
address was made by Alhaj A.G.M. Rafeek.
