Being appointed as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Health Organisation is not a personal victory but a victory of President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Government and Sri Lanka, gained in the International arena, said Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.

A passage to Sri Lanka - in 1818

A British woman's memoirs of her days as a passenger on an historic ship will be on display in an exhibition. The original diary of a widow who sailed as a passenger with her two young children from Sri Lanka back to Britain on board HMS Trincomalee in 1818 will go on show at Hartlepool's Maritime Experience. The diary of Eliza Bunt has been researched by Mary Hope Monnery, a distant relative of Eliza Bunt, and transcribed and explained separately in a fascinating book.

CIC Agri accquires Kelani Valley Canneries

To bolster value addition chain:

Agriculture rich blue chip Chemical Industries (Colombo) PLC (CIC) through its subsidiary CIC Agribusiness acquired a controlling 60 per cent stake in Kelani Valley Canneries (Lanka) Ltd last Friday, a deal earmarked for higher value addition of the former's local and export agri-business.
