New electricity tariff structure for places of worship

A committee was appointed yesterday to formulate a special concessionary electricity tariff structure for religious institutions soon, a Power and Energy Ministry media release said.

The committee headed by Ceylon Electricity Board Chairman Udaya Srikariyawasam would study the concessions to be granted to religious institutions and present the report to Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne in two weeks, the release stated.

Minister Seneviratne addressing religious dignitaries at the Ministry pointed out that 65 per cent of the total electricity requirement generated using diesel compelling the CEB to impose a fuel adjustment charge of 30 per cent which had been waived off recently from the religious institutions, the release stated.
