Defamation case against GMOA Secy dismissed

The defamation case filed against Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) Secretary Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya was dismissed by the Colombo District Court when the plaintiff Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Community Medicine of the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, Colombo University Dr. Terrance G. De Silva withdrew the plaint.

The plaintiff withdrew plaint when Defendant Padeniya tendered his regret both personally and on behalf of the GMOA for causing inconvenience to him by publishing a press release on October 21, 2004.

The plaintiff filed the case against Dr. Padeniya on November 10, 2005 citing that a press release referring to him issued under the hand of Dr. Padeniya to several newspapers was defamatory on him.

The defendant stated that he had no malicious intent against the plaintiff.
