Mahanama victorious

Earlier Mahanama College cruised to their third successive victory this season while outplaying Science College Mount Lavinia by 41 points to 12 points in their Singer inter school under 20 Division One Group B league rugby tournament match worked off at Longden Place yesterday.

Mahanama College stormed into a commanding 22 nil lead at half time and collected their points from three goals and four tries. Science College produced an improved performance in the second half and scored a goal and a try. The match winner for Mahanama College was their fly half and playmaker Sahan Umagaliya who planted five superb tries including a hattrick.

In fact he ran down their first four tries in a blistering 35 minutes of play and added another try to his tally in the second half.

Winger Shanaka Chaturanga joined in the fun during the latter stages of the match to score two good tries.

Mahesh Karunanayake converted two tries and Ramesh Gunawardena converted one try.

Winger S. Niluka and centre Nimesh Channa scored a try each for Science College with Ashan Malik converting one try.
