Holcim FA Cup soccer commenced

The Holcim FA Cup soccer championship got underway recently. Thirty four preliminary round matches from a total of 69 games were completed.

Moragasmulla sports club and Anandians sports club scored the highest number of goals each collecting 6 goals each playing against Thariya United SC and Three Star SC. This most prestigious soccer championship has attracted 118 teams from all parts of the country.

These teams will battle it out on a knock out basis.

The final is expected to be played in the latter part of July, last year it was Negombo Youth SC who carried away the Holcim FA Cup beating Sunders Sports Club from Colombo.

The winners of the trophy will receive cash award of Rs. 250,000 while the runners are to carry away a purse worth Rs. 100,000.Results: Rogers SC beat Mahara Youth SC 4-1, Southern Youth SC beat Old Mazenodian 4-3, New Sun Rise SC beat Red Rose SC 3-2, Henamulla United SC beat Eleven Star 2-0.

Moragasmulla SC beat Thihariya United SC 6-0, Old Wesleyites SC beat Kolons SC 4-0, Matara SC beat Flying Arrows SC 4-1, Galle Youth SC beat Super Sun SC 4-1, Urbern Council SC beat Sun Rise SC (Be) 2-1.

Green Field SC beat Liver Pool SC (Be.) 3-1, Havelock SC beat Dharga York SC 2-0, Super Beach SC beat Dharga United SC 2-1, Golden Star SC beat Pelicans SC 5-4, Serandib SC beat Hyline SC 3-1, Chilaw Youth SC beat Al-Hira SC 2-1, Anandians SC beat Three Star SC 6-5, Manchester SC beat Eleven Start SC 3-1, Young Lions SC beat Kennedy SC 5-4, Sisu SC beat young Sprit SC 2-1, Camaroon SC beat Milleniam SC 4-0, Young United SC beat Rebels SC 3-2, Young Mates SC beat Green Park SC 2-0, Eastern Youth SC beat Brillinats SC 2-0.
