Dhamma solution to all problems - PM

Prime Minister Wickramanayaka

COLOMBO: The Dhamma offers solutions to all forms of suffering and misery, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said.

The Prime Minister in a message to mark Vesak said: "Today mankind is fast moving towards material affluence and getting used to a life style based on self-indulgence. Family connections and inter-personal relations are on the wane. Man rises against man.

Selfishness, unlimited competitiveness, disruption of relations, anxiety, isolation and mental unrest have been its unevitable consequences. This state of affairs has posed a series of challenges to the mankind in this century.

Buddha's exemplary life and His sacred Dhamma has been a source of enlightenment to the world. The Dhamma offers solutions to all forms of suffering and misery.

Buddha preached compassion and loving-kindnes to the world and lay stress on the importance of simple life as a panacea for all ills. Buddha Dhamam teaches us as to how a righteous society could be achieved with the elimination of desire, hatred and ignorance."

It is only Buddhism that could provide solace to mankind beset with complex challenges of the 21st century.
