96 AP mines recovered from Janakapura

Three solders were injured during a confrontation in the area of Ethawetunuwewa, Welioya on Saturday (03).

There was sporadic fighting reported with terrorists in Janakapura, Welioya, on Saturday, the Media Centre for National Security said.

Six LTTE terrorists were killed and three were reported injured during the sporadic fighting throughout Saturday. Two soldiers were also reported killed and two other soldiers were reported wounded in action.

Meanwhile, seven terrorists were killed and twenty six were reported injured when Troops launched a massive determined assault on a LTTE strongpoint North Janakapura on Saturday. The Army also reported two soldiers killed and four soldiers wounded in the assault. Ninety six Anti- personnel mines, sixteen "booby" traps and a Global Positioning System (GPS) was recovered in search operation conducted by the Army in the area thereafter.

Four terrorists were also reported injured during a confrontation with Troops on Saturday around 9.45 in the morning in the Kiriibanwewa, Welioya. Ten terrorists were injured during another confrontation with Troops on the same day in Adankulam, Welioya.
