Hakeem fanning communal flames - JHU
Chamikara Weerasinghe
The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) yesterday said the leader of the Sri
Lanka Muslim Congress was fanning the flames of communalism in his
campaign to win the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Election.
JHU Propaganda Secretary Nishantha Warnasinghe said that Rauff Hakeem
was doing this in keeping with a sinister agenda agreed upon by him with
the UNP and the LTTE, to consolidate their political positions with LTTE
support.
"The UNP and Hakeem were able to enter this pact because there was no
other way that the LTTE could ever enter the Eastern Province, from
where they were flushed out by the Security Forces," he pointed out.
"Hakeem has been speaking of a "Muslim Desai" provoking communalism,"
he added.
Hakeem was carrying out a sinister agenda with the UNP that would
betray the Sri Lankan Security Forces who sacrificed their lives to
liberate the Eastern Province from LTTE terrorism, he added. "Hakeem has
put the Muslims in trouble with this action which can give rise to
terrorism once again in the East. Easterners have just breathed the air
of freedom from terrorism as result of the efforts of Security Forces,"
he said.
