Public co-operation vital to maintain law and order - Senior DIG

Public co-operation is vital for the Police Force to maintain law and
order in the country. The general public and police personnel are a
strength to me in setting up Community Centres in the Colombo Division.
Therefore, on the direction of IGP Victor Perera, a Police Community
Service has been started in all areas of Colombo division, said newly
promoted Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka at a ceremony held to felicitate him
by the public and police personnel on Friday.
Senior SPs Ajith Fonseka, I.M. Karunaratne, Mahesh Samaradiwakara and
other Senior and junior officers of the Colombo Division received the
new Senior DIG at the entrance to the Colombo Zahira College and
escorted him to the venue with Kandyan dancers.
Later Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka attended religious ceremonies
conducted by the Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu and Muslim clergy at the
Colombo Zahira College auditorium. The religious dignitaries blessed the
new Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka and wished him all success to run the
Colombo Police Division smoothly.
Senior DIG Mediwaka emphasised that the Police Community Centres will
be set up in the other parts of the Country on the direction of IGP
Victor Perera.
"Our bounden duty is to implement the President's concept of Mathata
Thitha in order to eradicate the drug menace from the country," the
Senior DIG added.
Senior DIG Mediwaka appealed to his officers to build a close
relationship with the media in order to develop the city of Colombo.
Mediwaka thanked all who participated at the ceremony to welcome him on
his new appointment.
All arrangements to receive the new Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka were
arranged by Colombo Central Senior SP Ajith Fonseka, Senior SP I.M.
Karunaratne assisted by Colombo Division Senior and Junior Police
personnel.
All Colombo Division Senior SPs, SPs, ASPs, OICs and Police Women
personnel also participated at the ceremonies held in Colombo on Friday
to welcome Senior DIG Mediwaka.
