Army Chief attends New Year festival at Ambepussa
To co-inside with the Sinhala and Hindu New Year, Officers and other
ranks of the Sri Lanka Sinhe Regiment organised a New Year celebration
at their Regimental Centre in Ambepussa on Saturday.
The chief guest, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General
Sarath Fonseka and Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) President Anoma
Fonseka, were received on their arrival at the venue by Brigadier
Jayanath Perera, the Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre offering
a hand of betel.
The chief gust, SVAB president and senior Officers lit the coconut
oil lamp before commencing the day's celebrations which were full of
traditional games and sports such as playing tambourine, tug-of-war,
breaking pots etc.
Commander of the Army distributed push bicycles among the winners of
the bicycle race while Anoma Fonseka crowned the New Year princess. A
large number of villagers including children and elders joined this
happy occasion. |
