Commenting on the current situation of the country, the Chief Guest Gunasena Thenabadu said "After centuries of living side by side and forging a rich culture of shared traditions, isn't it a pity that the Sinhala and Tamil communities are now polarised" stressing on the importance of tolerance acceptance and understanding, he further commented, "When we were young, we studied in English, which was a great link langauge, we had friends from all communities and we did not feel like we were talking to strangers.

We celebrated festivals, played together and understood each other completely. The present generation does not have the ability to communicate and though that relate to youngsters of their age in other communities. We need to change this situation and go back to what it was before".
