Heshan and Miniruwani for short course World C'ships

Two swimmers from Kandy, Heshan Unamboowe of Trinity College and
Miniruwani Samarakoon of Gateway International School will swim at the
Short Course World Swimming Championships to be held from April 9 to 12
in Manchester, London.
According to DIG Sirisena Herath, President Interim Committee of Sri
Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) both swimmers were picked on their
current form. Heshan and Miniruwani have performed creditably in the
2007 and has represented Sri Lanka in several international meets
winning many medals for the country.
Back stroke specialist Heshan and butterfly stroke specialist fared
prominently at the inaugural South Asia Swimming Championships held in
Islamabad, Pakistan last September being selected as the best men's and
women's swimmers at the meet.
Both of them are the current men's and women's national swimming
champions. DIG Herath, the swimming chief added that FINA, world
controlling body for swimming will provide all facilities to the two
swimmers.
Mahinda Liyanage, Senior Member of the SLASU, a former Sri Lanka
swimmer, waterpolo player and a diver will go as the manager. Mahinda is
also waterpolo and diving coach.
U.H. Primlath, Trinity College swimming coach will be the coach. The
four member squad will leave on April 7. |
