Light Infantry overall champs

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment emerged as the overall
champions at the 11th Sri Lanka Army Sports Festival of the Disabled
concluded at the Army Grounds yesterday.
The festival was ceremonially concluded yesterday with Industrial
Development and Ranviru Welfare Minister Kumara Welgama and Army
Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka participating as the chief guests.
The SLLI Regiment gained 495 points to secure the overall
championship while securing overall championships for power lifting,
swimming, volleyball, air rifle shooting and athletics.
The Gajaba Regiment emerged as the runners-up securing 369 points as
Commando Regiment was adjudged the second runner-up with 180 points.
Corporal Upul Bandara of the Commando Regiment received the trophy
for the Best Athlete at the Sports Festival. The sports events were held
at 12 locations from February 22 to March 28 and Army Commander
Lt.Gen.Sarath Fonseka inaugurated the Sports Festival for the Disabled
on Thursday at the Army grounds.
During the Sports Festival the disabled soldiers came out with their
best performances to establish one national record in the 200 meter
under third category of the disability, while six records were lowered. |
