‘Improve eastern spill area of Batalakotuwa tank’

On the written instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Matale Assistant Commissioner Agrarian Services (ACAS) Madhawa Warnakulasooriya he has been directed to take steps to improve the Eastern spill area of Batalakotuwa tank.

The President has responded to the petition submitted to him by Puwakpitiya Farmers’ Society Secretary K. G. Wilbert. The petition submitted on 11-12-2007 stated that Kalahakele-Pattiwela road runs over the dam of Batalakotuwa tank.

The concrete slab laid across the Eastern spill is covered with moss due to constant flow of tank water over the slab. The farmers are inconvenienced when they step-over the slippery slab which is the only point to enter the tank-bund and the paddy field below.
