Kelani Cables PLC is aiming to enter the elite Rs. 3 billion turnover mark by local companies by the end of this financial year.

Managing Director of Kelani Cables Hemantha Perera speaking at the launching of Kelani Submersible pump cables and Kelani Welding Cables targeting local and foreign markets yesterday said the launch of the two new products would also help increase their revenue.

“We are initially targeting the Indian market then will move into the Gulf and European markets,” he said. Though these cables are manufactured in India we are confident that we could capture a considerable amount of the market share in India since these cables are lead free cables he said.

He said that manufacturing these cables in Sri Lanka could save nearly Rs 200 million in foreign exchange for the country. These products were imported to the country spending large amounts of foreign exchange.

Since we are in the Indian market, we could easily penetrate this market through this new product. This cables are manufactured under British Standards (BS 6004) and Indian Standards (IS 694) he said.

Sales Manager of Kelani Cables Anil Munasinghe said these two products were 100 per cent designed in Sri Lanka. “We are investing nearly Rs 150 million for R & D and the company also hopes to introduce two ground breaking new products each year.

He also said Kelani Cables has a strong dealer network islandwide including the North and East. There are 95 distributors providing services with the support of six Area Sales Managers and 42 Sales Promotion Officers.

Kelani Cables says it sticks to their theme “Safety forever” and does not pollute drinking water when installing a submersible pump in a deep water well.
