The Highways and Road Development Ministry completed work on the
prefabricated flyover in Peliyagoda within 61 days.
A Ministry Spokesman said this is a new record in the development of
the Sri Lankan highways and roads development sector.
"This construction is a world record since the assembling of the
prefabricated flyover was completed within 61 days," he said.
The record was earlier held by the Philippines. The Philippines
Government completed the assembling of the prefabricated Malalos flyover
in Manila in 66 days. It is 300 metres in length. The Peliyagoda flyover
is 300 metres and was built across the Kelaniya railway crossing on the
Colombo-Kandy main road.
The project was built at Rs. 2,000 million with UK Government funds.
Maabey and Jonson Company in UK in collaboration with the Road
Development Authority carried out the construction of the flyover.
Around 75,000 vehicles travel along the Kelaniya railway crossing per
day. The railway crossing is closed 160 times a day. The flyover would
ease traffic congestion. |
