A member of an NGO was arrested in connection with a case of child
molestation by Child Protection Authority (CPA) on Sunday in Kosgama,
Authority’s OIC CI W.D.T. Wijesena said.
The alleged suspect aged 27 and resident of the Pugoda area was a
frequent visitor to Kosgama and pretended to be a social worker.
“He was preparing to take several underage boys to Galle on the
pretext of attending a seminar. Meanwhile, he also collected some funds
from parents to open accounts in the name of their children but he never
produced pass books to the parents,” CI Wijesena told the Daily News.
He said the suspect carried many forged identification papers to
carry out his activities. “During the interrogation police recovered
several forged IDs citing different designations,” he added.
The suspect was writing endearing letters to the children in order to
attract their attention. “These letters were giving the impression they
were meant to approach the children for sexual purpose. It also
confirmed that there is no such seminar to be held in Galle,” CI
Wijesena said. |
