Russia urges Pakistan to beef up anti-terror efforts after election
RUSSIA: Russia on Thursday asked Pakistan to strengthen
anti-terrorism strive and stimulate social and economic progress after
the South Asian country’s parliamentary elections.
“We hope the new government will be able to resolve tasks of vital
importance that is to strengthen in a more effective way the fight
against Pakistan’s main threat, the terrorism, and to create the
socio-economic conditions necessary for strengthening national
security,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin.
The general elections of Pakistan were held on Feb. 18.
Initial results showed that the opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)had
won the largest number of National Assembly seats, which made it
entitled to form the next government.
