BATTICALOA: Over 70 per cent of postal voters turned up yesterday to
elect their representatives to the Batticaloa district local bodies.
The postal voting had taken place without any major incident.
Assistant Elections Commissioner of Batticaloa district T.

enthusiasm.
“We have received around 650 postal vote packs out of 934 till end of
the day. This counts for around 70 percent of the postal votes so far,”
he added.
He reiterated that the postal vote marking proceeded without
violence. Krishnandalingam pointed out that a special training class
will be held today for selected 300 Senior Proceeding Officers. The SPOS
will acquire efficient knowledge and skills to function competently at
285 polling centres.
Meanwhile, 10 more polling centres will be set up at Internally
Displaced People (IDP) centres in the Batticaloa district.
“We have arranged 10 more polling centres at the IDP centres in
addition to the existing 285 polling centres. Specially trained SPOs
will also carry out their activities at the IDP centres during the
election,” Krishnandalingam said. |
