Commander, Maldivian National Defence Force (MNDF) Major General
Mohamed Zahir is in Sri Lanka on a goodwill tour and to participate in
the Passing-out parade of Maldivian Defence Force parachutists, trained
by Sri Lanka’s Training School of the Commando Regiment.
The visiting Maldivian military chief as the first leg of his
itinerary visited the Army Headquarters yesterday morning where he was
accorded a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour with presidential colors
from the Armoured Regiment of Sri Lanka.
The visiting military chief, in accordance with military traditions,
inspected the Guard Turnout before he was received by the principal
staff officers of the Sri Lanka Army, to accompany him to the office of
the Commander of the Army.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka upon the
delegation’s arrival extended a warm welcome to his Maldivian
counterpart and the delegates.
The meeting that followed focused on bilateral issues of security
concerns, training programmes, historical ties and related matters.
Lieutenant Fonseka traced the history of the terrorist problem and
gave a detailed account that explained the history of the country.
The increase in recruitment of youngsters to the Sri Lanka Army also
attracted the visiting military chief’s attention.
The visiting chief participated in the Passing out parade of his
parachutists of the Maldivian Defence Forces. |
