Country’s development through village level
“Accelerated development in village level will help to develop the
country speedily. Realising this situation the President and the
Government have given priority to develop rural areas even facing a
critical war,” said Housing and Common Amenities Ferial Ashraff after
handing over “Lakjayagama” Janasevana Housing Scheme constructed at
Mirigama recently.
After the ceremonial opening of Lakjayagama Housing Scheme with 50
houses constructed by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA)
at a cost of Rs. 3.2 million. The owners of the houses in this housing
scheme are from poor families in and around Mirigama area.
NHDA has granted Rs. 100,000 as a grant to construct these houses and
the beneficiary family has constructed their own houses using low cost
building materials and traditional technology. It consists a community
hall, Shrine room and internal road network.
Minister Ashraff was welcomed by Kokila Harshani Gunewardena, SLFP,
Chief Organiser Mirigama. Senior Advisor to the President, Former
Minister Lakshman Jayakodi and Minister of Public Administration and
Provincial Councils Karu Jayasuriya also participated on this occasion.
The Minister said “Lakjayagama Housing Scheme can be considered as a
milestone in the development process of the Sri Lankan Housing Programme
and the 50 beneficiary families have constructed fully completed houses
with Rs. 100,000 grant given by the Government.
The NHDA has provided technical assistance and the guidance to
construct these houses. |
