Orange Electric showcases electrical fittings at Architect 2008

Orange Electric, Sri Lanka’s leading brand for electrical accessories will showcase their latest range at Architect 2008, which is being held from February 20 to 24 at the BMICH.

The Orange Electric theme for this year’s architects’ exhibition is “futuristic living spaces,” which will showcase the latest technology in intelligent lighting systems and the brand’s latest range of switches and sockets that will complement any interior.

The intelligent lighting system on display offers a wide range of smart switching options that integrate with security, networking and other automated controls to provide a total solution for an intelligent building. The system also enables energy management, schedule based lighting, daylight harvesting, mood lighting as well as security lighting.

Orange Electric has turned the basic electric switch and socket into exciting accessories, with their new range of metal finished X 6 switches and sockets, in matt gold and metallic silver. Architects of futuristic homes and offices hail the X 8 switch and socket range as much awaited electrical accessories. Also on display at the Exhibition are lightning protected sockets.

Another very popular Orange Electric accessory featured at the Orange stall is the Eubiq Power Track, which broke new ground in electrical fittings, carrying both power and data through a conductive track.

The Eubiq Power Track’s modular concept connects several appliances located in one room by taking multiple adaptors.


Opening day of Architect 2008

The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) marked the opening day of its 25th Annual Session with Architect 2008 at the BMICH on February 20. The theme for the event was ‘Architect the Initiator.’

The chief guest for the event was the Prime Minister of the Sri Lanka Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka, while the Guests of Honour were Minister of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development, Dinesh Gunawardene, Minister of Housing and Common Amenities Ferial Ashraff, amidst a host of other distinguished guests. The keynote speaker on the occasion was renowned Architect Ulrik Plesner, Managing Partner, Plesner Architects, Israel, who has been working for many years in Sri Lanka, and had a professional association with architect Geoffrey Bawa.

Architects who had made immense contributions to the profession, those who have been elected as new members of the Institute, those who have excelled in the construction industry as well as those who have won Design Awards were also recognised.

Architect Surath Wickramasinghe who has done yeoman service to the profession as well as being a past President of the SLIA and the founder President of the Chamber of Construction Industry was honored with a Gold Medal at the event. Architect, Ulrik Plesner, Managing Partner, Plesner Architects, Israel was awarded an honorary membership of the SLIA. In addition, Design Group 5 International, a registered practice at the SLIA, a leading practice in Sri Lanka with 35 years in the industry, was presented with a Special Award.


EPSI awarded the status of ‘CIMA Training Partner’

EPSI Computers (pvt) Ltd entered into a partnership relationship with The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) to establish a framework for the development of its staff members. This initiative will facilitate study for candidates within EPSI and practical experience support in their professional and continuous development.

In addition, CIMA Sri Lanka division will conduct presentations on the CIMA qualification and practical experience requirements for EPSI employees.

EPSI computers will also conduct in-house finance and management related seminars for the benefit of their staff.

1987 prices at the Echelon Pub

“Time to time we come up with attractive packages and promotions to offer our customers with the best deals and services, and with the hotel celebrating their 21st year in Sri Lanka we thought it would be apt to offer our customers with a special deal of paying the price paid for selected beverage brands in 1987 - the year the Hilton Colombo was opened,” said the hotel’s Marketing Communications Manager Gigi de Silva.

Adding to the festivities, there will also be a number of events happening at the pub every night of the week. A quiz night will be held every Monday where a maximum of 4 people will take part in the challenging competition. Additionally a pool tournament will happen every Tuesday.

The hotel will also host a Karaoke night every Wednesday. The winners will receive Hilton gift vouchers.

“The best day is of course on Thursdays where we ladies get spoilt” added de Silva. On this day of the week, the ladies are in for a treat as the hotel hosts a Ladies Night including selected beverages on the house.
