“We are happy with the moulds and technology being used in Sri Lanka
and this was why we decided to tie up with Cey Nor to acquire that
technology. We also prefer Cey Nor since they have over 45 years of
experience,” he said.
Chairman Cey Nor, Rohan Jayasinghe, said initially they would
manufacture dual-powered boats utilising diesel and wind power for the
Bangladesh market.
This novel boat was built as a result of a joint venture Cey Nor had
with the Belgium based Building a Future Foundation (BAFF).
He said this boat would bring down the cost of catching fish by
almost 40 per cent.
Sri Bangla Boat Private Ltd first contacted Cey Nor through its
General Manager K. D. Liyanage who participated at an exhibition in
Bangladesh organised by the Export Development Board. (EDB)
Under the MoU, local engineers would be in Bangladesh to train Sri
Bangla staff and they hope to produce around 24 boats in the second
year.
Jayasinghe said that this is a very good opportunity and they hope to
intensify their operations in Bangladesh. “We are also looking at
similar opportunities in India,” he said. |
