Matara PS budget passed with 16 vote majority

At a special meeting the Matara PS adopted its budget for the year 2008. It was passed with a majority of 16 votes.

All the UPFA members and UNP members voted for the budget. Sarath Weerawansa (JVP) and Charles Nanadana voted against.

Presenting the budget - 2008, Chairman Chandrasiri Devasurendra (UPFA) said that the majority of the capital works undertaken during the year 2007 had been completed. Janaka Sadaruwan (UPFA) seconded the budget estimates for adoption. On being put to the House the budget was accepted with 16 members (UPFA) and (UNP) voting for and two (JVP) voting against.

At this stage the Chairman declared the budget for the year 2008 adopted by a majority of 16 votes as against two.

The Leader of the Opposition Lional Kodikara, (UNP), Vice Chairman Upulsiri Ganhalaarachchi (UPFA), Sarath Weerawansa (JVP), Karunarathna Jayatunga (UPFA), H. K. Pani Rohitha (UNP), Sanath Kumara Suriyarachchi (UPFA) and several members of the council spoke.
