Govt. releases funds for SLTB salaries

The Government has decided to release additional funds amounting to
Rs.39 million monthly from the Treasury to provide an attractive
salaries for around 40,000 employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB).
The decision has been taken on a request made by Transport Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma to salvage the SLTB from the current grave situation
by creating a good working environment for its employees whose salary
was not increased for the past three years.
A Ministry Spokesman told the Daily News that the salaries with
increments will be paid to employees from next month. He said that the
employees have been paid lower salaries which has not been increased
since the SLTB was peopolised under the UNP regime. He said the measure
was aimed at providing relief to workers who had not received due
recognition for their service.
"It is useless trying to improve the efficiency of the State
transport services, without he solving their administrative problems.
By providing sufficient salaries and modernising and improving SLTB's
facilities, the Government intends to provide a comfortable ride to the
commuters." the spokesman said. |
