LTTE Eastern leader Shanker killed

LTTE Eastern leader Shanker was shot dead by the Special Task Force in Shaukade, Batticaloa last afternoon. Weapons were recovered from his possession, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.

According to Brigadier Nanayakkara, the STF on patrol spotted Shanker while he was clad in civvies, between Sathurukanda and Eravur in the Shaukade area yesterday around 12.45pm.

“Shanker was appointed as the LTTE leader to the Batticaloa sector and was living in hideouts since the East was liberated,” he added. Brigadier Nanayakkara pointed out that Shanker who had observed the STF, started firing and the STF gunned him down in retaliatory fire.

A micro pistol, three magazines and a hand grenade were recovered from his possession.
