Speaker pledges security for all Members

Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara told Parliament yesterday that every Member of Parliament would be provided with security with a minimum of four guards plus weapons and vehicles.

The Members exposed to threats would be provided more security after an evaluation, he said.

The Speaker said this decision was reached at a discussion with Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka and the Inspector General of Police.

He also told Parliament it was decided to instruct the Superintendents of Police to provide security to the residences of Members of the Parliament.

The Speaker made this pledge in response to the issue of security of the Members of Parliament raised by the Opposition on Tuesday.
