Condolence message on demise of Minister Dasanayake
PM condemns Minister Dasanayake assassination
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake has vehemently condemned the
killing of Nation Building Minister D. M. Dasanayake yesterday at Ja-ela
Town on his way to attend the first day of the Parliament this year.
While expressing his heartfelt condolence over the brutal killing of
his colleague, the Prime Minister has blamed the LTTE for this cowardly
act.
The message issued by the Prime Minister said, the sole aim of the
LTTE terrorists is to kill the innocents and they have begun killing
spree with the beginning of the New Year.
Whether it is an MP, a civilian, schoolchildren or those going for
medication, the terrorists do not care and they take away the precious
lives of the innocents.”
What is underneath is the aim to disturb the programme the Government
has initiated to end terrorism and bring about peace to develop this
land”, the message added
Being elected from Puttalam district from 1994, Minister Dasanayake
has served not only to his people but also to the country at large as an
MP, Deputy Minister and a Minister.
Sri Lankans will not forget the services he rendered to better their
lives. “He was local leader who had given a yeoman service to the SLFP.
The killing of the Minister who had committed himself to the
development of the districts of Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kegalle and Mannar
is a great loss” I convey my deepest sympathies to the members of his
family and to the members those others who were injured and wish them
speedy recovery”, the message said.
Rishad Bathiudeen, MP
“I am shocked to learn that D. M. Dasanayake, a national leader who
rendered yeoman service to the nation irrespective of caste, creed and
religion has tragically passed away as a result of a ruthless bomb
attack of the terrorists.
Passing away of a Minister of his calibre is a great loss to the
nation. I view him as a leader who was totally committed during his
lifetime to serve the Sri Lankans.
He is a person who stood for the well-being of the masses from all
walks of life in Puttalam district and always did not hesitate to voice
the concerns of the people. In general he is an exemplary leader who
rendered his services to the whole country in a people-friendly manner.
At this moment of grief, I wish to honour late D. M. Dassanayake, as
a close associate who extended me his cooperation at all times. More
than 100,000 persons from North were rendered destitute due to the
forcible eviction by LTTE.
These IDPs came and settled in Puttalam district. I pay my humble
tribute to this great person who spared no effort in looking into the
grievances and the well-being of the IDPs.
It is no secret that LTTE had been instrumental in exploding bombs in
various parts of the country.
They do this in order to undermine the effort of the President
Mahinda Rajapaksa’s democratic framework of bringing about durable peace
to Sri Lanka.
Today all Sri Lankans are subjected to fear psychosis. On behalf of
late D. M. Dassanayake, I wish to pledge that I am ready to extend my
fullest support to the President on all matters in bringing about peace
to Sri Lanka.
I wish to extend my condolences to his grieving wife, his family
members and the people of Anamaduwa electorate on the untimely demise of
Minister D. M. Dassanayake.”
