Air Force destroys LTTE’s global centre
Sri Lanka Air Force fighter jets yesterday pounded and destroyed the
LTTE’s coordinating centre for international activities located at
Vishvamadu in Kilinochchi.
The air attack was carried out around 12.30 p.m.
“The target was identified through a series of ground and air
surveillance conducted over a long period,” Air Force sources said.
Meanwhile, intelligence sources said that the details of the targets
had been obtained from real-time ground information received through
reliable sources.
The Sri Lanka Air Force raided this same place on April 18, 2007.
Kalaialagan, the Second in-Command of the LTTE’s coordinating centre
for international activities who had been given a self-styled “Lt
Colonel” rank has been killed on that occasion.
Intelligence sources believe that a meeting of high-ranking LTTEers
was taking place at the time of the air raid.
Earlier, the Air Force confirmed that LTTE leader Velupillai
Prabhakaran was injured in an air attack carried out in late November.
On November 2, LTTE political wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan was
killed in a air attack on a location in Kilinochchi. He was the highest
ranking LTTEer killed in an attack by the Security Forces.
The SLAF also bombed the Voice of Tigers clandestine radio station in
Kilinochchi on November 26, causing extensive damage. Several LTTEers
were killed in that attack.
Meanwhile, 40 Tigers were killed in confrontations with troops in the
Wanni and Mannar fronts in the last 24 hours. |
