Samantha Suraweera,
Gampaha South Group Corr.
“As a timely needed responsibility, the Government has undertaken to
provide the legal aid service for poor litigants and has taken measures
to decentralize the services of the Sri Lanka Legal Aid Commission to
facilitate the ordinary people specially in rural areas, who are
economically unstable,” said Director General of Sri Lanka Legal Aid
Commission Hector S. Yapa at a meeting held at Gampaha District
Secretariat Auditorium.
He said so addressing the legal and educational workshop conducted
for the Gampaha District Samurdhi Development Managers organised by the
Samurdhi Development Office under the direction of District Secretary V.
K. Ruparathna.
The LAC Director General said the main aim of Judicial Service is for
a peaceful law abiding society where everyone respects the law. This
will greatly benefit the country and help its progress.
He said those who break the law should be brought to book. This is
the only way we can minimise the number of crimes and various vices
confronting the people. While suggesting to have law as a school subject
he said general knowledge in law and order will be a solution to curb
crime.
The law is equal to all and the Legal Aid Commission is there to
assist the poor litigants economically, the LAC Director General said.
District Secretary V. K. Ruparathna, Asst. Commissioner of Samurdhi Kalu
Arachchi and Reginold Kumarasiri also spoke. |
