School textbooks for private, international schools

Discontinuing the prevailing practice the Ministry of Education would take steps to issue school textbooks to all private and international schools from 2008 to allow students to sit for the local examinations rather than foreign exams, Education Ministry sources said.

Accordingly, private and international schools would be able to conduct educational activities according to the same curriculum which is taught in Government schools and prepare students for local examinations while students can make the best use of the textbooks.

Under this programme private and international schools will not implement foreign curricula which is not suitable for the Sri Lankan education sector.

Private and International schools are advised to inform the Education Publication Department about their textbook requirements.
