Chamil, Suwen and Helmut steal the limelight

Ecola International School Schoolboy Chamil Wickremasinghe (Men's
Gross), Suwen Selvaratnam (Ladies Gross) and Helmut Sucky (Overall
Winner) stole the honours at the Christmas Medal golf competition
organised by Victoria Golf and Country Resort and played at the
picturesque Victoria golf course at Rajawella off Kandy.
Fifteen year old Chamil Wickremasinghe who has made a big impact in
the local golf scene playing to a handicap of 6 registered a gross score
of 79 while veteran golfer Englishman Ian Tait got gross 83 and David
Evans made 85. Mike Varney with a score handicap too got an excellent 79
but opted out of the competition, though on top.
Versatile Suwen Selvaratnam won the ladies gross competition with an
excellent 85 and in second place was Sonia Boyle with gross 91. In third
slot was Dawn Perera with a gross 96 - a very good performance for a
newcomer at Victoria which is challenging and difficult to come to teras.
Indira Tibblins finished fourth with 98.
Schoolboy Chamil Wickremasinghe playing to a handicap of 6 was top of
the men's Division I for golfers with handicaps between 0 to 12 with a
Nett 73. Having won the Men's Gross Division title, the Nett Division
title went to Ian Tait who made 76 nett playing to a handicap of 76
followed by Mike Varney 79 nett, David Evans 81 nett and Adrian Perera
81 nett.
Per Cramborn won the Men's Division 2 for handicappers between 13 to
28 by registering 72 nett playing to a handicap of 19. He was followed
by Sirath Kasthuriratne with a nett 77 but he played to handicap of 15.
Expatriate Helmut Suchy was adjudged Overall Nett winner having
registered an excellent 71 playing to a handicap 19.
The distribution of awards took place in the club house during the
Christmas bash with Ms Sonia Boyle, and Ms Nicola Bofifass during the
honours along with a representative of SriLankan Airlines. |
