Sri Lanka to take part in Asian Nations Rugby tourney

Sri Lanka will take part in the Asian Nations Division one tournament
along with Chinese Taipei, China and Singapore in May or June 2008 which
will be worked off in either Sri Lanka or Chinese Taipei.
The top five nations in Asia, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and
Arabian Gulf will play in the Asian Five Nations Tournament in June
2008.
The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union also hopes to conduct three
inter-club sevens tournaments in 2008.
The first tournament will be conducted in Kandy on February 2 and 3,
2008 followed by the second one on February 16 and 17, 2008 in either
Badulla or Galle and the third tournament will be worked off in Colombo
on March 1 and 2,2008 after which a pool will be picked in preparation
for the Hong Kong Sevens.
The Sri Lanka Rugby team under the leadership of Jeeva Galgomuwa came
up with a superb display to emerge runners up at the Singer Rugby Asiad
in Colombo in November and the council of the SLRFU has decided to offer
cash awards to the members of the team at a felicitation ceremony in
January next year.
Sri Lanka scored two smashing wins over China (26-10) and Malaysia
(77-3) in their Group 'B' matches and went down fighting by 17-24 to
Asia's fourth ranked team Kazakhstan in the final of the Singer Rugby
Asiad.
The players who will receive cash awards are Jeewa Galgamuwa, Shamil
Mohamed, Kishore Jehan, Senthil Kumar, Achala Perera, Senaka Bandara,
Sumedha Jayasinghe, Ashan Kerthalis, Imran Bisthemin, Dushanth Lewke,
Sumedha Malewana, Kasun de Silva, Amjad Buksh, Saliya Kumara, Fazil
Marija, Ashan de Costa, Lasintha de Costa, Avantha Hettiarachchi,
Niroshan Karunenayake, Lakala Perera, Sanjeeva Jayasinghe, Redhika
Hettiarachchi, Dinuk de S. Wijeyeratne. |
