Lankans among large crowd at Chidambaram temple

More than one lakh people from across India as well as from countries like the US and Sri Lanka thronged the Lord Natarajar temple at Chidambaram in the district on Monday on the occasion of 'Arudhra Darshan'.

The temple rituals commenced with 'Maha Abhishekam', performed on the deity Shiva and Sivakami Sundari for two hours from 4 a.m. The idols of the deities were decorated and special poojas were performed in the sanctum sanctorum.

Later the idols were taken to 'thousand pillar mandapam' in the temple for public darshan.

The festivities were preceeded by a 10-day car festival.
