Providing pure drinking water to everyone is Govt's aim - Minister

The underground water resources are depleting daily due to the
accelerated development projects. People face immense health problems
due to water reservoirs being polluted by various reasons, said Urban
Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardane.
He was speaking after handing over the Korathota drinking water
supply scheme to the beneficiaries.
The Water Supply and Drainage Board has implemented the water supply
scheme at a cost of Rs.48 million. Families numbering 6,500 in Oruwala,
Korathota, Pelengahawatta and Thunandahena will benefit from the scheme.
The scheme was implemented with the direct participation of public,
the Perakum Praja Kamitu and Pelengahawatta Saviya Praja Mandala too
played a major role in implementing the project. Minister Gunawardane
said providing pure drinking water to every door step is the duty of the
Government.
He said while fighting terrorism the Government has spent huge funds
for the benefit of the public. The public should pay their gratitude to
the Government. Gunawardane said that the Government has submitted its
development proposals through the 2008 budget proposals.
"We have taken steps to strengthen the investors from small scale
industry to major scale industries," the Minister said. |
