Delmege Super League cager tourney begins on February 15

The Mercantile Delmege Super League Tournament will be worked off at the Otters courts and Mercantile Cricket Association courts from February 15 and will be continued till March 15. The tournament is organised by the Mercantile Services Basketball Association and sponsored by the Delmege Group.

The men’s matches will be worked off in four divisions while the women’s teams will play in two divisions. The division ‘A’ mens comprise favourites Delmege Group, Dialog Telekom, Akbar Brothers, Nations Trust Bank, DFCC Group and Sampath Bank.

The reigning champions Delmege Group will have a tough task from their closest rivals Sampath Bank this year too as both teams are well equipped with top national cagers. The latter finished runner-up last year. David Peiris Motor Company, Seylan Bank and Hatton National Bank vie for honours in the women’s ‘A’ division title. Seylan Bank and HNB were the champions and runners-up respectively last time.

Apart from that the ‘B’ division which comprised ten men’s teams have been grouped into two. The group ‘A’ includes Ranawana and Company, SriLankan Airlines, Mas Holdings, Hatton National Bank and Commercial Bank. NTB were crowned as champions last year with Ranawana and Company finishing second.

The group ‘B’ consist of Hayleys Group, Amana Group, HSBC, David Peiris Motor Company and Union Assurance Limited. The women’s ‘B’ division features Hayleys Group, Srilankan Airlines and MAS Holdings.

The men’s ‘C’ division comprise Seylan Bank, David Peiris Motor Company ‘B’, Ceylinco Group and Nations Trust Bank ‘B’. Hayleys ‘A’ clinched the title last time while David Peiris finished second.

The ‘D’ division which is featuring eight teams have been drawn into two groups. Singer Sri Lanka, Airport and Aviation Services, SriLankan Airlines ‘B’ and Global Payment Asia Pacific Private Limited are the teams who take part in the group ‘A’ while for group ‘B’, MAS Holdings Group ‘B’, Mobitel, Eagle Insurance Company and Metropolitan Group.
