Thera clubbed to death

Deputy Secretary of Dambulla Shashanarakshaka Balamandalaya Ven. Mahakanadarawe Dhammadassi Thera was clubbed to death while he was fast asleep in his abode at his temple - Kimbissa Sri Mahindaramaya yesterday morning.The Sigiriya Police arrested an aide of the temple on suspicion.

The suspect 45, is reported to have confessed at a boutique at Kimbissa Junction that he committed the murder using a bat.

He has been charged with assaulting the Thera earlier too. The Thera is a voluntary teacher attached to the Kibissa Primary school. Dambulla Magistrate Nimal Ranaweera inspected the scene yesterday. Sigiriya Police are investigating.
