Para-Clinical building for Rajarata University

The Cabinet has approved to a memorandum submitted by Higher Education Minister Prof. W. A. Wiswa Warnapala on awarding the construction contract for constructing a para-clinical building for the Faculty of Medical and Allied Sciences of Rajarata University at the cost of Rs. 330 million.


Uva Wellassa Univeristy to become fully-pledged one

The Cabinet has approved to a memorandum submitted by Higher Education Minister Prof. W. A. Wiswa Warnapala on the establishment of Uva Wellassa University. The construction work was assigned to Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau in 2005.

The Phase I of the project is now completed within the original cost of Rs.350 million.


Building complex for Kelaniya University

The Cabinet has approved to a Memorandum submitted by Higher Education Minister Prof. W. A. Wiswa Warnapala on the construction of a building complex for the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies at the University of Kelaniya.


Industrial Estate in Galigamuwa

The Cabinet has approved to a memorandum submitted by Industrial Development Minister Kumara Welgama on the establishment of an industrial estate on a portion of land from Parana Arandarawatta of Atala Estate, Bisowela in Galigamuwa in the Kegalle District.

Galigamuwa has been identified as a suitable location in Kegalle District of Sabaragamuwa Province to set up an industrial estate.


Awareness programme on national heritage

The Cabinet has approved to a memorandum submitted by National Heritage Minister Anura Bandaranaike on a national campaign for creating awareness among school community “Nation’s Heritage is for Children”.

The national campaign will be implemented over a period of ten years. Rs. 5 million will be utilized for this purpose annually from 2008.


OPD and Clinical Complex at Castle Street Hospital

The Cabinet has approved to a memorandum submitted by Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva on the construction of Out Patient Division (OPD) and Clinical Complex at Castle Street Hospital for Women at a cost of Rs. 163.5 million.


Commissioner for Tourism Administration

The Cabinet has approved to a memorandum submitted by Tourism Minister Milinda Moragoda on the appointment of a Commissioner for Tourism Administration. Tourism being a hospitality industry is expected to maintain very high standards in providing services to its clientele.


Permission to fell Jak trees

The Cabinet has approved to a memorandum submitted by Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya on granting permission to fell Jak trees without permit..

This arrangement came into effect from 29.11.2006. However, the Conference of the District Secretaries held on 30.08.2007 proposed that this period should be further extended. Therefore, the Cabinet has granted its approval to extend this period for one more year.
