Ornamental coconut planting campaign

Plantation Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne will inaugurate an ornamental coconut planting campaign tomorrow at the Galle Face promenade to encourage the urban community on the coconut planting on President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s directive.

These high yielding coconut varieties including dwarf and tall coconuts have some horticultural aspects and are grown to enhance the beauty of urban areas.

Coconut Development Board Chairman Dr. Jayantha Gunathilaka said these hybrid coconut trees bear two or three clusters at a time each comprising more than 60 nuts.

Irrigation, Water Management and Ports and Aviation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa and Coconut Development Minister Salinda Dissanayake will also participate.
